The South East Business Show - Jan 2014

Monday, January 27th, 2014

We had a busy week last week which ended with a great day at the South East Business Show at Gatwick.

David, Lisa and Nick manned the Telcare stand which was our usual spot in the centre of the Millennium Conference Centre.

We were treated to four seminars throughout the day; David particularly enjoyed Susannah Schofield’s presentation about growing your business. Susannah is the owner of Dice Matrix Consulting as well as being author of Mind the Gap, a business strategy book.  Her humorous and lively talk included stories of how she learnt from her own mistakes; it was definitely worth a listen. Susannah can be found at http://www.dicematrixconsulting.co.uk/

We felt there were lots of new faces at the event, so lots of opportunity to make new acquaintances throughout the day. We were also pleased to see old friends, especially when so many took the time to stop by and catch up.  As we all lead busy lives, we really relished having the time to chat with so many people. We certainly left feeling educated and hopeful of new relationships.

The winner of our champagne (see below) was Adam Streather from Phoenix Security and Event Safety. Well done Adam, we think you might be sharing that bubbly!

2014 Quiz Nights

Monday, January 13th, 2014

We are giving you advance warning to dust off your encyclopedias and brush up on your general knowledge in order to join us for an airing of the grey matter, yes we’re talking quiz’s.

Telcare are delighted to announce that we will be sponsoring The Friends of Wisdom Hospice 2014 Quiz nights.  Not only are we sponsoring the events but we will also be challenging you to get a team together and try your luck at beating us, which quite frankly won’t be difficult.

If you have some bright sparks in your office, why not make up a quiz team and join in the fun and whilst we’re at it we can raise some much needed funds for the hospice.

There is of course a serious side to this; the hospice provides fantastic support to the community. Did you know that one in three people have been touched by hospice care? When helping at hospice events, I have always been moved by the personal stories the general public have shared relating to the support they have received.  The hospice really does an amazing job, but need your help to continue to do so.

The first quiz night will be held on Saturday 15th March at Hook Meadow Community Centre in Walderslade, ME5 0TZ. Teams will be made up of 6 people and charged at £6 per person. All you need to bring along is the tipple of your choice together with some nibbles and a pen. Arrive at 7pm, the quiz kicks off  at 7.30pm.  To book a table either contact Lisa at Telcare 01634 731350 or Emma at The Friends of Wisdom Hospice 01634 831163.

Should you wish to make a donation or would like to get involved in an event please go to www.fowh.org.uk

Telcare's 2013 Review

Tuesday, January 7th, 2014

The New Year arrived with such speed, we can’t really admit to being ready or was that just a reluctance to let go of 2013?  It had been such a varied year for us.  It feels fitting to take a peek back at 2013 and give thanks for all the good things that came our way.

The winter brought it’s annual dumping of the white stuff, let’s face it January wouldn’t be January without the snow and of course this means a very busy time for us, as many of our customers need assistance with their telecoms; diverting calls and recording emergency messages, as they struggle to adapt to a change in their normal operating procedures. Thankfully the team fully embraced ‘snow mode’ and steered us all through the chilly chaos.

Charity efforts saw the businesses in Beaufort House join forces in March to raise some money for Red Nose Day. David (seen here) entered the spirit by donning the red nose attire and coughing up some of his hard earned cash for the charity.

Our links with education were strengthened by continuing with our commitment to work related learning for students.  CV writing, mock interviews and work experience placements are always a regular feature on our calendar.  Our relationship with the Medway Education and Business Partnership has evolved as we find ourselves involved in more and more of their events.

Training was a big part of the Telcare year, every staff member received assistance with their continued development. We particularly focused on customer service, health & safety and human resources. We must include a huge well done to Bekki,Victoria and Jamie for outstanding NVQ results.

Staff treats included a curry night, a special treat to Charlie & the Chocolate Factory at Drury Lane and the end of year Christmas party, held again at the wonderful Ashdown Park Hotel.  Should we include the odd MacDonalds breakfast indulgence or just pretend they didn't happen?  Here's a photo from Ashdown Park.

Food always plays a major part in the Telcare office, mainly thanks to Tina and Simon. Tina for the baking and Simon for the eating, he never turns down a good cake (ssh don’t tell his wife.) The Halloween cup cakes were particularly tasty I recall.

Supporting our business community is always high on the agenda.  At the beginning of the year we nominated the successful Talita Wigg of Kent Detox for recognition at the Kent Women in Business Awards. We were delighted to attend the event in March and to see Talita named as the winner in the health and beauty category.  In September we were proud sponsors of the Kent Independent Trader Awards. It was refreshing to hear the majority of winners attributing their success to the support of others. There’s no doubt that a strong network plays an important role in business.

In addition we have welcomed many a new customer and had the pleasure in serving our existing clients.  It’s not just about customers though; we have received huge support from suppliers, local businesses and of course the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce. Thank you to you all, we look forward to sharing a successful 2014.
