The Telephone Preference Service - How it can help you

Monday, February 16th, 2015

Nuisance calls can be a daily problem, whether it be via your residential line, business line or mobile. Although the TPS doesn’t claim to be able to rid all, it certainly is a good place to start when trying to reduce these types of calls.

We have been made aware of some sites similarly named who charge a fee. Please be aware that the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) is a FREE service and is the only service able to add your number to the register.

The correct website is

You can register your mobile as well as your landlines.

If you are not sure if your number is already registered, just go to the site and input your number to find out immediately.

TPS is not a call blocking service. Numbers registered are placed on a register and organisations are legally obliged to check the data with TPS before making unsolicited marketing calls. The legislation, the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, states that it is unlawful to make direct marketing calls to those that have indicated that they do not wish to receive them.

If you find you are still receiving unwanted calls, you can log a complaint with TPS. TPS cannot penalise the callers directly but they do pass the complaints on to the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) who do have the power to take action.

For unwanted calls to your fax please register with the Fax reference Service at and for unwanted post register with

In the meantime, be vigilant when completing forms, never give your consent to third parties contacting you.

We are very aware that our customers are our greatest asset, without them we simply wouldn’t be in business, so we try to show appreciation whenever possible. Every now and again, however, we get to be on the receiving end of appreciation and that is always very special. When a customer takes time to stop and say thank you, it really does make our day and of course is confirmation that we have provided value.

Thanks to one of our lovely customers, we arrived to this email today:

Hi All at Telcare

After being prompted by reading your newsletter and completing your customer survey I wanted to add that I was so impressed with the way our issue between Christmas and New Year was sorted.

Due to the high winds a phone line was down, you got us information on this and very promptly diverted our phone lines then kept in communication letting us know how work was progressing, then after everything was fixed, promptly sorted out some other problem with the system which I have no idea if was related or not.

I just wanted to say thank you all for dealing with our issue during a time when nobody really wants to be at work or thinking about it!

We are most grateful to Suzannah for taking the time to write in and let us know her thoughts, it certainly has brought a smile to the office and encourages us to keep up the good work. Thank you!
