Monday, June 29th, 2015

Are you looking to make new connections?

Come and meet the team at Telcare. You’ll find us on stand 80 (our usual place in the corner). We are looking forward to welcoming you and finding out what you do.

We have a fun quiz ‘Parlez Vous Telecoms’ which will test your telecoms knowledge, in a light hearted way, don’t panic you won’t need to revise. A good little exercise to bring you up to speed with telecoms talk!

We will also be capturing smiles for charity. Our chosen charity is the fabulous Wisdom Hospice in Rochester. All you have to do is come along and smile for the camera. Telcare will be donating a £1 for every smile collected. Please look out for the hashtag #Smile4Wisdom on social media. Photos will be displayed on our facebook page

Of course there will be the obligatory bottle of fizz on offer for one lucky winner in our B2B business card draw. For your chance to taste a fab bottle of prosecco, simply pop your card in the box and we will pick out the winner before the day comes to an end.

The Kent B2B is now in it’s 29th year. With over 100 exhibitors, free workshops and engaging keynote speakers, it really is an event not be missed. The date is 7th July and the location is the Ashford International Hotel, TN24 8UX

Small is the new BIG

We recently had the pleasure of being part of a recruitment fair at the University of Greenwich.

The day was aimed at bringing students and employers together to discuss full time job opportunities, internships and work experience placements. A good way to test the waters for both employer and employees.

The event was organised by Reed ncfe; and what a great job they did too. We were looked after from the very moment we arrived in the car park, right up to the cheery goodbye when leaving. A buffet breakfast was arranged, a packed lunch was delivered to our stand and there was even a closing buffet and thank yous at the end of the afternoon. They had it all covered.

The day began with a friendly welcome speech by Daniel Robinson from Reed ncfe, followed by an inspirational address by Professor Thomas Barnes and then the Mayor of Greenwich officially opened the occasion.

A timetable of speakers had also been arranged for students to attend throughout the day. Speakers came from all walks of industries ranging from The London Ambulance Service to Ford Motor Company.

There were over 80 employer stands in attendance all willing to meet, greet and advise students on employment opportunities.

An impressive number of students turned out for the event; some were about to graduate this summer and some were in their first or second year at University, just checking out what was on offer and making connections.

We were busy all day, making connections, discussing CVs and finding out what is important to students when searching for the perfect job.

Telcare were there to champion the role of the small business. We highlighted the advantages of working in a smaller organisation and found that many students hadn’t given this much consideration. It was interesting to gather how students saw ‘the corporate role’ as being the route to success. In reality only a small amount of students will land a corporate position and yet there are over 5 million SME’s in the UK, all playing a very important part in the economy. As Lord Young once said to David Cameron, when making recommendations for the growth of micro businesses, “If just half of the UK’s micro businesses took on an additional member of staff, unemployment would be reduced to almost zero”. We certainly like that idea and definitely feel that small is the new big.

Let’s hope we have changed a few perceptions and that SME’s are now included on a few more student’s wish lists.
