A great breakfast, thanks for joining us

Thursday, March 24th, 2016

When the day begins with glorious sunshine you get the feeling that it’s going to be a good one. Fortunately for us it was the day of our Business Breakfast and we were up early with a spring in our step and thoughts of egg, bacon and good conversation.

The venue was Cote Brasserie at Bluewater; the good people at Cote are known for serving tasty breakfasts and great coffee so we knew we were on to a winner when picking the location.IMG_0130

In addition to the full English, we had the opportunity (thanks to Darryl Burton) to taste some of Peter Spanton’s posh beverages. These drinks are designed to be used as either mixers or on their own. A very grown up alternative to the fizzy drinks available for those who are looking for a non-alcoholic option.Peter Spanton No.13 Salted Paloma seemed to be a hit, apparently the perfect partner for tequila. The Dry Ginger (No.3) offers a really fiery bite and the Lemongrass (No.5) was simply begging for a vodka but hang on it was only 8am! Back to business.

We welcomed 23 business men and women from across the county, some were customers and suppliers, others business partners and supporters. The mix worked well and the room was soon filled with happy conversation.IMG_0133

More entertainment came from the delightful Hilary Steel, who furnished us with insightful ways to use live streaming and user platforms such as her favourite, Blab.IMG_0131 Hilary advised us that this really is the year of the conversation and by connecting with people globally via live streaming has really benefited her business. Not only has it expanded her reach, she has found that it provides a constant source of content as well as significantly reducing time spent on research. Hilary invited everyone to join her on twitter @hilaryjsteel and take part in one of her live streaming sessions. As with most things, it’s easier to get to grips with new concepts by having a go. Huge thanks to Hilary for giving up her time to share her knowledge.

More thanks go to Amanda Flanders from B&D Events who was also instrumental in the morning’s success by bringing her event management skills into play and helping to arrange the breakfast.

Included in the cost of each ticket was a donation to charity, which supports Lisa Settle’s charity bike ride from Vietnam to Cambodia in November. Funds support Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action. It was wonderful to see so many embracing this idea and quite overwhelming to receive extra donations on the day, a heart-felt thanks to each and every one of you. The total raised was a fantastic £126.46.

Finally, many many thanks to everyone that attended and for the kind comments we have received since. We hope that new connections were made, interesting discussions were had and above all you enjoyed the morning.

“It was a fantastic breakfast, very well organised and a great speaker! Thank you for the invite.” Katherine Everitt, MacIntyre Hudson LLP
