Telcare Summer Update

Wednesday, July 6th, 2016

It seems we have only just got the hang of writing 2016 and then July appears! The first half of the year has flown by here at great speed. If July is bringing sunshine then it’s more than welcome, we could all do with some days off in the great outdoors. Don’t forget to update your voicemail greeting before you head off on holiday, remember to delete all the old messages so there’s enough room for the new ones. Check out our voicemail tips on our previous blog.

Things have been busy here at the Telcare office and we've been out and about too. Supporting local businesses with their events and helping in the community with school and university programmes. Many thanks to those of you that visited our stand at the Kent B2B in Ashford. What an event. There was no chance of easing oneself into the day with a cup of coffee and a chat with our fellow exhibitors. We hit the day running. Visitors arrived early and the venue was busy throughout, it was the perfect opportunity to catch up with contacts old and new. IMG_1601
We ran our Smile 4 Wisdom campaign again and visitors were happy to join in and contribute a smile for charity. We donated £1 for every grin captured. Amanda Flanders of B&D Events and Jemma Fairclough-Haynes from Orchard Employment Law were pleased to join in the fun. All the smiles were posted on our Facebook Page.

We do like to keep you up to date with relevant learning and a recent topic for discussion in the office has been REIN. No not the wet stuff! REIN stands for Repetitive Electrical Impulse Noise. If you've not heard of this before, here's a little bit of information. This is radio interference emitted by electronic devices and machinery on or nearby your premises. This interference can cause loss of data which in turn can slow down or even completely disconnect your internet service. Often the offending equipment is a faulty or poorly manufactured electrical device. Unfortunately, it is not an easy problem to fix but a good start would be to log the activity on a daily basis in order to look for patterns that may indicate REIN presence. If you suspect that your service is affected, try to identify where the interference may be coming from by turning off (and unplugging) electrical devices that are close by and see if it resolves the issue.

There has been a huge focus on fundraising here, as Telcare’s Lisa Settle has taken on the challenge of cycling 450kms from Vietnam to Cambodia in order to raise funds for Women V Cancer. Lisa will be joining two friends Sally Carter and Liz Tottman in November when they travel to Asia to embark upon the amazing adventure.
Lisa explained “the trip was Sally’s idea, which at first horrified me, I hadn’t been on a bike for years but through regular training the three of us have improved enormously and I certainly feel a lot more confident, I actually look forward to our training days now.” IMG_4415

The trip has been organised by Action for Charity and the funds raised will be supporting three fantastic charities Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.
The girls are tasked with raising £3000 each by 1st August.

Lisa says that any support would be hugely appreciated, cycling tips, fundraising advice, sponsorship or simply words of encouragement, it’s all equally needed.
You can follow the girls at If you wish to sponsor Lisa you can do so at

So it's on with the rest of the year, wishing you all a fantastic summer, with best wishes from the Telcare team.
