We are pleased to finally be able to say that we will be volunteering alongside the Friends of the Wisdom Hospice IN PERSON! We are delighted to be able to resume our commitment to community service offline.

We will be volunteering at Restoration House, located just a few minutes’ walk from Rochester High Street, on specific dates from June to September. We will be serving tea and coffee (and of course cake) in this historic house’s tea rooms.  Although there will be a slight change to the pre-pandemic routine, service this year will be through the window of the tea room and you’ll be pleased to know there is plenty of room to sit in the beautiful gardens.

Some information on the Friends of The Wisdom Hospice

The Friends of The Wisdom Hospice supports the work of the only adult hospice serving Medway and Swale in Kent. It makes an annual grant to Medway Community Healthcare of £600,000 towards hospice running costs. In addition, it provides extra equipment and facilities that fall outside the MCH budget.

It goes without saying that any donations will be going to a very worthy cause, so all support is greatly appreciated. We have worked very closely with the organisation for a few years now and they are always working very hard to put on amazing events, so be sure to look out for them in the future as they are always a lot of fun.

Some facts on Restoration House

  • Restoration House, as described on its website, is the ‘amalgamation of two medieval buildings which were combined in the late 16th or early 17th century to create a mansion house just outside the south east corner of the city wall of Rochester’ (More information found at https://www.restorationhouse.co.uk/the-house
  • The house gets its name from the visit of King Charles II on the eve of his restoration.
  • For those of you familiar with Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, Restoration House was supposedly the model for Miss Havisham’s Satis House.
  • The house is home to some beautiful gardens that are open to guests during the summer months.

If you are ever nearby, be sure to pop in, you won’t be disappointed!
