Mix Fireworks or firecracker.
It’s time to grab the bull by the horns and focus on the new year ahead, it will be what you make it, but we all need a little support along the way. How fortunate we are then, to be located in Kent, where there’s a thriving business community with hundreds of business men and women encouraging each other along their chosen paths.

Having access to these marvellous men and women can be a most valuable asset for you and your business. We all need contacts to help our business grow. So how do you meet said marvels? You network! Being out and about in the business community, meeting like-minded people and developing mutually beneficial relationships is a positive move for any business. It’s a great way to find out what’s happening in your local business world, learn something new and receive free advice and mentoring.
On that note, we know of a few events coming up that you might wish to attend. canstockphoto6370084

Lisa Settle of Telcare has been a long standing member of the North Kent and Medway Women in Business Group. “Over the years the group has seen changes as each chairperson brings in their own innovative ways to move the team forward. This is great as it encourages new thinking and keeps us on our toes. One thing that doesn’t change though, is the support, understanding and comradery of the ladies involved, for me, this alone is worth the membership fee”.

North Kent and Medway Women in Business are a team of women who can provide you with

• The confidence to take the next step
• Networking and collaboration opportunities
• Education through speakers and workshops
• Support within the safety of a friendly group

WiB imageRegular meetings are held on the first Wednesday evening of every month at the Education Centre, The Wisdom Hospice, Rochester, ME1 2NU. Doors open at 6.30pm. The first meeting is always free of charge and there is no obligation to join as a member, you can simply pay as you go.

The Kent B2B 2015

Wednesday, July 8th, 2015

Yesterday the business community of Kent turned out to attend the very well established and highly regarded B2B event at the Ashford International Hotel.  Hosted by the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce and in it’s 29th year, this was an event you really did not want to miss. KentB2B_logo_info

Packed with all the regular features, such as the opening breakfast, keynote speakers, workshops, speed networking sessions and more, it’s no wonder the event was sold out.

Although our stand was busy for the majority of the day, we did manage to join in the speed networking and sit in on Kevin Gaskell’s presentation which was honest, thought provoking and extremely inspiring.

We had a little bit of fun on our stand by running a fund raising initiative called Smile4Wisdom. We invited visitors to donate a smile and we then donated a £1 on their behalf to the Wisdom Hospice.  We managed to capture 48 smiles so will be passing on a rounded figure of £50 to the hospice.  Thank you to all of those that took part in the fun, all the photos are on our facebook page, which is www.facebook.com/telcareltd

Of course there was the obligatory bottle of fizz on offer to the lucky winner of our business card draw. This year’s winner was the charming Pierre Haincourt of Credit Limits International. Pierre was delighted to receive the bottle of prosecco as his prize. Cheers Pierre.

Needless to say there were lots of croaky voices and sore feet at the end of the day but one thing was evident and that was the positive feedback.  Looking forward to the next event.

Successful Exhibiting 5 Tips to Consider

Monday, July 21st, 2014

As Telcare exhibit quite frequently we often get asked whether we consider these types of events successful. The answer is yes but the emphasis has to be on how you determine ‘successful’. Here are a few of our tips that you might find helpful.

1.Expecting a long line of customers eagerly ready to purchase your product might just be classed as wishful thinking. It’s never going to be that easy. Expecting to meet new people and starting new conversations is far more realistic.

2.The sales process is very much like an essay; the introduction, the nitty gritty and the conclusion. You cannot get down to the nitty gritty without the introduction and the conclusion will very much depend on what you’ve said and done beforehand. Go along to these events focusing on the introduction and building relationships. During the day you will meet fellow exhibitors, organisers and visitors. Some you may know well, some not so well and others you will have yet to meet. Aim to support your friends, forge new relationships and strengthen those existing connections.

3.A point to remember; if there are 100 exhibitors at the event then that’s 99 other people for you to network with, regardless of the amount of visitors that show up on the day. You get to spend much more time with fellow stand owners than you do with a visitor to your stand. Go well prepared with enough staff to man your stand as well as visit all the other stands. There is no rule as to where business can be done; the coffee area or the bar always works well for us. Alfred Montapert once said “All lasting business is built upon friendship”

4.Let’s look at the people sharing the event. Are they all to be viewed as prospective customers? Yes of course, but they should also be viewed as prospective suppliers. It is extremely important to remember that the day has to include buying as well as selling. The reason for this is plain, if everyone went to sell sell sell then who is left to buy? It can be a recipe for disaster if your intention is to be in 'full-on' selling mode all day. Open up the channels of communication, let people have their say and view everyone as prospective suppliers as well as customers, the outcome will be far more enjoyable, and in the long run far more successful.

5.You’ll notice we used the term ‘in the long run’ on that last point, that’s because we believe nothing happens over night, success comes from momentum. The more you exhibit the more you will learn; the more you learn the better you exhibit. The more people you meet, the more likely you are to increase the chances of doing business.
Of course there are other things to take into consideration when exhibiting, such as the position of your stand, stand etiquette and the ante and post exhibition plan, but that’s a blog for another day.

After the event - Kent b2b 2014

Thursday, July 10th, 2014

The reluctant thoughts of early starts, heavy boxes and setting up stands can soon be turned around by a well organised event. This was the case on Tuesday at the Kent b2b 2014 at the Ashford International Hotel, Ashford.

This well loved event hosted by the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, is in it’s 28th year, and as the Chamber Chief Executive, Jo James, said “it has grown from small beginnings into one of the county’s most prestigious business occasions.”

As Chamber members, Telcare have been both delegates and exhibitors over the years and have witnessed the growth of the event along with the constant improvements that have culminated in the successful business exhibition that it is today.

Our stand was in the usual place, giving visitors a base to meet with us, however a lot of networking was done ‘off stand’ whilst connecting with fellow exhibitors and wandering visitors throughout the venue. There really are no rules as to where business can be done!

We enjoyed an intriguing seminar delivered by Daniel Priestly on how to become a key person of influence. Daniel kindly gave away some of his books but you can imagine how quickly they were snapped up and alas I was at the end of the queue.

Something new this year was the introduction of the speed networking with our French friends from the Transmanche Business Club. With the ease of transport to Calais these days, the possibility of doing business across the Channel should not be discounted. As I discovered the closeness of the Holiday Inn in Calais really makes a meeting or a team building event quite doable.

Serious networking can be hungry work so thank goodness for Beverley Adams-Reynolds from Exquisite Vintage Teas and her delicious offerings of scones, cupcakes and to-die-for lemon drizzle cake. The event photographer, Pete Bresser, captured the evidence perfectly.

The winner of our champagne was the very lovely Joanne Keane from Connect 2 Staff. It was a pleasure to meet her and hand over the bubbly. You can find Joanne at http://www.connect2staff.co.uk she will be happy to assist you with any recruiting needs you may have.

The Kent b2b experience was in our opinion a valuable way to spend the day. Having the opportunity to connect with so many of our contacts, existing customers and suppliers, as well as new prospects all under one roof really can’t be ignored. Learning and sharing information with Kent’s finest business men and women can only maximise our potential. So we will see you same time and same place next year.

The Connected Business Expo, Olympia 2014

Tuesday, March 11th, 2014

If it’s the very latest information you’re after in the technology industry then the Connected Business Expo at Olympia was the place to be last week.

With names such as Microsoft and Virgin Media on the bill you can imagine the draw for any IT specialist, curious to discover the new products, new solutions and emerging trends in this ever changing sector.

Our first stop was to check out our preferred partner Unify (the re-branded Siemens) and to see what was the reason for all the interest at their stand.  We weren’t surprised to see that it was ‘Project Ansible’ causing all the fuss.

Siemens Enterprise re-branded last October and emerged as Unify.  There has been a major drive since then to evolve communications and find new and simpler ways to work.  ‘Ansible’ is fundamentally a video conferencing system but really it’s is so much more.  In simple terms it aims to bring together different communication channels and devices into a single experience.  Take a look at www.unify.com and check out the demo that will give you more of an idea of the product.  It's exciting times for Unify, who in our opinion took centre stage when it came to creating an ‘expo buzz’, so there was no surprise to hear that they received the award for 'Exhibitor of the Year' for the second year running.

We were also taken with Gamma Telecom’s stand, their innovative but simple way of promotion was worth a photo, Horizon Avenue was another hive of activity throughout the day.

In addition to the stands there were 7 theatres all providing constant seminars covering subjects on mobile working, customer contact, voice and video conferencing, cloud and convergence, social business and collaboration.  The selection was varied, with something of interest for everyone.

If you want to keep abreast of technology and be in the know, you can register your interest for the next expo at http://www.connected-business.co.uk/  of course in the mean time if you wish to discuss any telecoms matter, contact us at 0800 376 8484 or at www.telcare.co.uk

The South East Business Show - Jan 2014

Monday, January 27th, 2014

We had a busy week last week which ended with a great day at the South East Business Show at Gatwick.

David, Lisa and Nick manned the Telcare stand which was our usual spot in the centre of the Millennium Conference Centre.

We were treated to four seminars throughout the day; David particularly enjoyed Susannah Schofield’s presentation about growing your business. Susannah is the owner of Dice Matrix Consulting as well as being author of Mind the Gap, a business strategy book.  Her humorous and lively talk included stories of how she learnt from her own mistakes; it was definitely worth a listen. Susannah can be found at http://www.dicematrixconsulting.co.uk/

We felt there were lots of new faces at the event, so lots of opportunity to make new acquaintances throughout the day. We were also pleased to see old friends, especially when so many took the time to stop by and catch up.  As we all lead busy lives, we really relished having the time to chat with so many people. We certainly left feeling educated and hopeful of new relationships.

The winner of our champagne (see below) was Adam Streather from Phoenix Security and Event Safety. Well done Adam, we think you might be sharing that bubbly!
